This Wednesday we go in depth on queer safety and empowerment, with talks on street harressment and sexual consent.

Empowered outside: queer safety in the streets

Many people from the LGBTQIA+ community face street harassment. This evening, Vera from Vera Traint will offer resilience training on how to deal with threatening situations.

Men as Well: sexual abuse in the gay community

From unsolicited touching to much worse: consent has to be talked about more in the gay community. That’s what Thomas (he/him) of Men As Well does, with a talk on sexual safety and consent.

Veel mensen van de LHBTQIA+ gemeenschap krijgen te maken met straat intimidatie. Vanavond geeft Vera (zij/haar) van Vera Traint een weerbaarheidstraining over hoe om te gaan met bedreigende situaties.

Men As Well: seksueel geweld onder homo’s.

Van ongevraagde aanraking tot erger: binnen de homogemeenschap moet consent bespreekbaar gemaakt worden. Dat doet Thomas (hij/hem) van Men As Well, met een talk over seksuele veiligheid.

On Thursday we display the works of photographers Prins de Vos and Jesse van den Berg, and Micklin will display the magazine Oatshake.

Jesse van den Berg (they/them) (1996, NL) is a visual artist who researches the topic of queerness with a focus on intimacy. Jesse’s work is an ongoing exploration of queerness around them and within themselves. With intimacy being the main focus, they look for ways to express their vision through lens-based media and experiments with materiality and tactility related to intimacy. Making the viewer aware of their thinking patterns while using the human body to investigate the meaning of gender and sexuality. In their research Jesse stays aware of the presence of the camera and how this affects the interaction between the model and the maker. With analogue photography in particular, Jesse is not only capturing intimacy but also integrates intimacy in the whole process of making. With their practice Jesse creates an experience of love, admiration and vulnerability.

Jesse also works as a freelance photographer, artist & (guest)teacher and works on a wide variety of projects mostly within the world of arts.

Oatshake is een queer independent fotografie magazine, gemaakt als ode aan de queer community en draait om educatie, representatie en inspiratie. Het laat de schoonheid van queerness zien, en leert de kijker tegelijkertijd over de mono,-cis,-heteronormatieve samenleving waar we vandaag de dag nog steeds in leven. Maar ook hoe we deze inclusiever kunnen maken, zowel naar, als binnen de LHBTQIA+ gemeenschap.

Issue 01. New Era laat de maker Micklin haar eigen werk zien, alsook het werk van andere getalenteerde queer creatives – fotografen, schrijvers, poëten, designers, modellen en researchers – om niet alleen naar buiten inclusief te zijn, maar ook van binnenuit.

We’ve suffered, discovered, explored, and flourished into the beautiful queer human beings we are today. This is Oatshake.
