First timer

Which classes do you recommend for first-timers?

Most classes at We Are Queer are accessible to all fitness levels, as the exercises can be individually adapted. Queerfit is a more challenging class for your fitness. If you’re new to exercise, consider choosing one of the other classes on the schedule.

We also offer classes at community center Lola Lijn:

Radarweg 309, 1043 NZ Amsterdam

This will be my first time at the gym. What can I expect?

We’re so excited you’re coming to the gym for the first time! Many people at We Are Queer are new to the gym. If you feel unsure or uncomfortable, that’s perfectly fine. The trainers and other members will help you feel comfortable quickly. We start each class with an introduction round, introducing you to the names and pronouns you’d like to use that day—a great opportunity to try out different pronouns. If you’d like to know what a specific class entails, read on to the training section.

Still feeling overwhelmed by booking your first class? Send us a message at customercare@wearequeer.nl to chat and connect.

What do I wear?

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. You’re also free to wear whatever you like and feel comfortable in! We only allow indoor shoes on the gym floor. It’s hygienic :-).

If you don’t have sneakers or don’t have the budget to buy them, please send us an email.

I have no gym experience! What am I supposed to do?

Trainers will explain and demonstrate all exercises. They offer different variations for varying levels of strength and experience. While you perform the exercise, the trainers will ensure you do so safely. They may also correct you, either verbally or with touch. Before touching you, a trainer will ask for your consent. If you don’t give your consent, they will only correct you verbally.

Would you like to speak with someone before your first visit? Email our community coordinator. She will be happy to assist you.

Memberships

How do I become a member?

When you click on memberships, you’ll see the gym’s offerings, including all prices. You can then sign up for the membership that best suits your needs. Still not sure? Then click on First Timer and come try it out for a week. We’re happy to help you choose!

Can I adjust my membership along the way?

Each membership runs for six months. If you’d like to upgrade your subscription during this time, you can. If you decide you’d prefer a lower membership, you can switch to a lower one after three months.

Is there a youth discount?

There will be two memberships for our youngest members:

The young membership, for members aged 14-18, allows them to exercise once a week.
The youth membership, for members aged 18-21, allows them to exercise three times a week.

Is there a student discount?

Unfortunately we cannot offer student discounts.

What does the WERQ run club entail and how do I sign up?

The WERQ Run Club meets twice a week to run and regularly participates in organized running events. You can join the Run Club for free. Check the schedule for running sessions. You’ll also find the starting points there.

Do you have open gym?

Yes! We have Open Gym time slots on the East schedule that you can register for. Open Gym is designed to complement your group classes. Read more about open gym here.

I can't (fully) afford a membership. Can I still join?

Finances should never be a barrier to joining We Are Queer. That’s why we offer two options. Do you have a city pass? Then you can get a membership at a reduced price. We also have the Community Care Fund, which we use to make memberships available. Contact us at hello@wearequeer.nl.

Sports clothes

What kind of footwear is recommended?

You can work out barefoot, on socks, or in gym shoes/sneakers that are only worn inside. No outside shoes allowed for hygienic reasons!

Is there a dresscode?

You are welcome to wear whatever you like. We recommend clothing you can move around in comfortably. Some people wear an old T-shirt, others have tight fitting clothes, others wear a workout set. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in, and we love to see it.

Class schedule

How can I cancel a class?

You can cancel your booked class in Eversports. You must do this up to 8 hours before the class starts to retain your credits. If you cancel later, you will lose your credits. We will also charge a late cancellation fee of €2.50.

I'd like to book a class more than 7 days in advance. Can I?

No, because classes often fill up very quickly, we have a 7-day limit. This gives everyone a chance to reserve a spot. Is the class you want to reserve full? Sign up for the waitlist through Eversport and turn on notifications. You’ll then receive a message when a spot becomes available.

Volunteering

How do I become a volunteer?

Great that you’d like to volunteer at We Are Queer! Send an email to volunteer@wearequeer.nl and we’ll get in touch! Bonus: as a We Are Queer volunteer, you get to work out for free.

Community Care Fund

It's (temporarily) impossible to pay my subscription fees. What now?

If you are unable to pay for a subscription, 50-100% of your subscription costs can be reimbursed from the Community Care Fund. Please contact us at hello@wearequeer.nl.
