First timer
Which lessons do you recommend for a first-timer?
The classes at We Are Queer are accessible to all fitness levels, as the exercises can be individually adapted. During a class, a trainer will demonstrate different variations of an exercise. You can also choose lighter weights. For Pilates beginners, we recommend Pilates FUNdamentals. Book your class on the schedule now.
This is my first time at the gym. What can I expect?
We are so happy that you are coming to the gym for the first time! Many people visit a gym for the first time at We Are Queer. If you feel insecure or uncomfortable, that is perfectly okay. The trainers and the other members will help you feel at ease quickly. We start every class with an introduction round featuring names and pronouns you want to use that day—a good time to try out some different pronouns. If you want to know what a specific class looks like, read on at classes.
Do you still find it a big step to book your first lesson? Then send us a Whatsapp-message or mail at customercare@wearequeer.nl to chat and connect.
What should I wear?
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Otherwise, you are free to wear whatever you want and whatever you feel good in! We only allow indoor shoes on the sports floor. It’s much more hygienic :-).
If you do not have sports shoes and do not have the budget to purchase them, please send us an email.
I don't have gym experience! What am I supposed to do?
Trainers explain and demonstrate all exercises. They offer various variations for different levels of strength and experience. While you perform the exercise, the trainers ensure that you do so safely. They can also correct you, either verbally or through touch. Before touching you, a trainer will ask for your consent. If you do not give it, they will only correct you verbally.
Would you like to speak to someone before your first visit? Then email our community coordinator. They will assist you further.
Memberships
How do I become a member?
Go to memberships, you will see the gym’s offerings, where all prices are also listed. You can then sign up for the membership that suits you best. Still not quite sure? Then click on First Timer and come try it out for two weeks. We are happy to help you make a choice!
Can I change my membership along the way?
Each membership has a minimal duration of 6 months; should you wish to upgrade your subscription during this time, this is possible. If you discover along the way that you prefer a lower membership, you can switch to a lower subscription after 3 months.
What does youth discount entail?
There are two memberships for our youngest members:
The youth membership, for members aged 14-18, allows you to exercise once a week. The young adult membership, for members aged 18-21, allows you to exercise three times a week.
Can I get the youth discount as a student?
We only offer age-related discounts, not student-specific discounts.
What does the running club entail, and can I sign up for it separately?
The WERQ Run Club meets twice a week to run and regularly goes to organized running races together. Joining the Run Club is free. Check the running sessions on the schedule. You will also find the departure points there.
Can I work out individually?
We regularly offer open gym sessions at WERQ Oost. During these hours, you can work out freely without guidance. A coach is present at the reception desk. Open gym is intended as an addition to our group classes.
I cannot pay for a subscription (in full). What now?
Finances should never be a barrier to exercising with us. That is why we have two options. Do you have a city pass? Then you can use it to take out a membership at a reduced price. Additionally, we have the Community Care Fund, through which we make memberships available. Please contact us at hello@wearequeer.nl.
Clothing
What kind of shoes do you allow in the gym?
In the gym, training is performed in socks, bare feet, or athletic shoes that have only been worn indoors.
Are there a dress code at the gym?
No, we want everyone to feel free to wear whatever they want. Make sure it fits comfortably so you can move freely.
Schedule
How can I cancel a booked lesson?
You can cancel your booked class in Eversports; you must do so at least 8 hours before the start of the class to retain your credits. If you cancel the class later, you will lose the credits. In that case, we also ask you to pay a late cancellation fee of 2.50.
I couldn't book a class more than 7 days ahead, why's that?
Because classes often fill up very quickly, we maintain a limit of 7 days. This way, everyone has a chance to reserve a spot. Is the class you want to reserve full? Then sign up for the waiting list via Eversport and turn on your notifications. You will then receive a message when a spot becomes available.
Volunteering at the gym
Where can I sign up if I want to volunteer?
It’s great that you want to get started as a volunteer at We Are Queer. As a foundation, we need many volunteers, for example behind the reception desk. Send an email to volunteer@wearequeer.nl and we will get in touch with you! Bonus: as a volunteer, you can work out at the gym for free. We also get together regularly for socializing.
Community Care Fund
I have a bit more to spend. How can I support other gym members?
Amazing that you want to help out other gym members. As a foundation, we have a Community Care Fund through which we fund memberships for people with little financial means. You can donate here.
